Arcade Marquee

My Marquee Project

Probably going with a Joust marquee... one of the first arcades I remember playing as a kid.
Original (from ebay) or reproduction?
Centipede, Joust, 194X, Street Fighter II, Ghouls N Ghosts, Rampage, Ghost n Goblins, DigDug, Space Invaders, Pac Man, Donkey Kong Jr, Donkey Kong, Millipede, Defender,

Mame Marquees - Excellent place to get arcade artwork.  This is where I got the Marvel vs Capcom artwork from for my custom build arcade.

According to Mame Marquees, the original Joust marquee is 24.2" x 7.4" (which take note, isn't a nice round standard size).

To try and replicate the original cabinet as much as possible, I searched for the dimensions of the Joust cabinet.  Supposedly, it's very close to Moon Patrol, which I could find dimensions for at BYOAC / Jakobud.  I have fond memories of Moon Patrol at home on either the Atari 800 (we had the XE... I remember the large colored buttons), 2600 (what poor deprived child didn't have one?), or 5200 (I think we had one)... I don't remember which.

Todo list:

  1. Order the marquee (make sure I really want Joust :p).
  2. Finish the sketch
    1. Decide on a possible screw-less design (what do real cabinets use?)
    2. Look at an interior invisible hinge
  3. Order T-molding
  4. Order formica (if using such)
  5. Determine electronics
    1. Microcontroller (Atmel)
    2. Lighting
    3. Power
    4. Sounds
    5. Coin input
  6. Complete electronics
  7. Construct frame
